It's been months since I've updated my blog. I have to admit, I purposely did not update or even read other fellow blogger's posts. It's just a little saddening to realize that chasing one's wings takes a long, slow and painful process for most of us. And even though there were preparations made before the previous Manila OD (last may 21st) - right now, I think I'm back to square one.

Anyway, what's new?
I'm here in Ilocos right now with the family.
Work is still work, but I'm thankful that there's still lots coming my way.
Been learning a lot of SEO and Marketing on the side.
The company is now an 'agency' - thanks to odesk's decision to change their terminologies.
Mai - thank you for joining Crayons. In case I haven't told you yet, I really enjoy having you as a colleague!

Losing Lisa

Last night, before I went to bed, I was planning to work 10 hours today. I wanted to make up for last week's unavailability because I was preparing for the OD and I was having crappy internet connection.

Today, I woke up past 11 only to find out that I'm starting to lose my favorite client.

The thing is, she is my first buyer in Odesk. She's the first client who trusted my skills and qualifications even though my Odesk profile was quite empty. I've been working for her since September 2008, and even though I've acquired more assignments that gave me higher pay then hers, I didn't want to lose her project.

Now, I'm heartbroken. As in really. It's like I underwent a breakup from a 2 year relationship. I can't work, I can't check today's emails, I can't eat properly and I'm depressed. I'm hoping that we could still work things out. I'm hoping that we can fix our relationship and give it another chance.

QR OD, May 29

I know I haven't been active in blogging, but I just want to share my experience on attending my very first OD.

I didn't really plan on going, but a blogger friend (Mai) insisted that I should try it just so I know how it goes.

Come May 29th, I woke up 3:30 am, took a bath, fixed my hair and applied make-up. It was my second time to apply full make-up on my own (first was for the required photos) . I was not sure what I was doing - if I looked okay or if I looked like an Espasol with all the amount of concealer, BB cream, foundation and powder that I was using! LOL

Anyway, I finished prep at around 7am. Mai and I agreed to meet at exactly 7am in front of Diamond hotel, but, we were both running late so we decided to adjust it to 7:30. To make the story short, I was 20 mins late.. where are those friggin' cabs when you need them??

When we arrived there, I was not sure where to go. Mai just lead the way! LOL We met Joanne, Diane (if I remembered correctly) and another girl (forgot her name). There were already a lot of applicants waiting in the lobby and 2nd floor. Approx 8:30am, IPAMS and the hotel personnel told everybody to go to the ballroom hall (we were able to get seats, yey!).

9:00am - ROs arrived and told us that the CV submission will start 9:15am. I finally saw Ms Rocel of IPAMS - she was way younger than I expected.

There were 4 ROs seated in front. One by one, we submitted our CV and stood in front of the RO to answer their questions. I submitted my CV to the lady with full bangs. She was nice but I was already so nervous that I could not smile without my lips shaking.

RO: Hello!
me: Hello! Goodmorning! (smile. shake. smile. shake. smile. fidget.. fidget... smile. )
RO: (after scanning through my CV) So, (insert my name here) ... Are you working right now?
me: Yes. I am a blah blah.. (smile. fidget. smile..)
RO: Why do you want to leave?
me: Because I've always wanted to become a blah blah blah...
RO: Did you memorize your line?
me: Excuse me? :D (leaning closer, pretending that I didn't hear what she said)
RO: Did you memorize your line in front of the mirror? :D
me. ..... ahhh.. YES! LOL
(I didn't notice if the RO laughed, but Mai said she did.)
RO: OK. Thank you!
me: Thank YOU! I look forward to hearing from you! (kapal ng fes! LOL)

In short, it was a very funny experience.. But, I'm really glad that I finally got to experience this. I am very grateful for Mai. I've been putting my FA applications on hold because of my scars, but now, I can't wait for the next QR OD!

In case you're still wondering if I got the "golden call"... I didn't. But, I am very thankful that the RO gave me a clue instead of letting me go without even telling me why I won't be shortlisted for the next day's AD.

Hmm.. what else.. Oh! I heard one of the ROs only asked one or 2 closed questions:
Is this your first time applying for Qatar?
Do you have previous cabin crew experience?

Overall, even though I was not shortlisted, I am happy. can't wait til July and I'm excited for Cebu! It will be my first time there so I'm crossing my fingers, hoping that I will be able to save up for the trip.

Sorry I don't have photos. I didnt bring my cam, even if I did, I won't remember to take pictures since I was so anxious the whole time. :D

Apartment hunting

I haven't been updating my blog lately. I've been apartment hunting.. I want to move to a new house. I've been planning this eversince I realized that this place if so far! - and that was 4 months ago when I moved in! LOL

Start over. Somewhere where everything is accessible. In short, somewhere near civilization! Coz right now, I'm so far from the places that I need to be. This place is dragging me down. Stopping all my plans from happening.

LOL. I know. I'm not supposed to be blaming everything on this place. It has been my refuge for 4 months.. and I have hated and loved it.

To UrbanFlier - i just know how you feel right now ( minus the feeling of becoming a flight attendant. LOL) Don't worry, everything will be fine. Just have fun. :) I know, like me, you'll learn a lot from this experience. "Powerpinay" suits your current state right now, independent woman. It's a bit lonely and liberating at the same time. ;P

Falling in Love with Makeup

I confess.. I have an addiction. I am now addicted to makeup!

I am unable to work, sleep right, eat properly and I am literally dreaming about it at night! LOL
Last Sunday I was just surfing the net for the whole day until Monday morning looking at makeup, brushes, makeup, eyelash curlers, oh and did I say makeup?!

I know. I know. You're thinking I don't even know much about make-up and I'm not even a make up artist so I don't need a lot of brushes but.. but.. but it is just so beautiful!! LOL
I know, when I have them I'll just be so happy! :D I'll definitely be more excited to study and ACTUALLY LEARN how to properly put on makeup. Plus, I have the 10% discount coupon from my BDJ planner. heehee. :D Anyway, I read a lot of good reviews from forums and blogs about these brushes so I think they are really worth it. I'll practice on myself , on my cousins and heck I'll even force my Ponga(bf) so I can practice makeup on him!. haha!

DollFace 72 Neutral Palette

DollFace Cosmetic's palettes are just so darn cheap! 72 shades of neutral eyeshadows for only 850 pesos??? I bought a blush from Body Shop and it cost me around P900. So I thought, even though I won't be needing every shade from this palette, it would still be practical considering the prices on other makeup palette that we see at the mall. Plus, I really want to practice practice practice! So, this palette will be really useful. I couldn't agree more when my friend said: "Maganda siya and practical. Patay ka na di mo pa nauubos ung eyeshadows mo." LOL

I read somewhere that earth colors look really good on people who have dark/warm skin tone. I also want to have this palette but I'm still not sure. I guess I'd have to do more research on earth colors and my skin tone. :)

Earn Dollars While Chasing your Dream Job

If you read Charlie's chatbox, I've been talking about Odesk and how it can help us FA aspirants to earn while waiting for our dream to come true. I know that it will be a really big help for everyone because we can work and earn money while waiting for ODs and we can go to every ODs and assessments without having to risk our jobs.

I've recommended Odesk to a lot of my friends and I've witnessed them fail and succeed. I guess I can speak from experience that not everyone was successful but once a person with enough patience and skills makes it, it will eventually be really rewarding. As in really.

Well, for me Odesk has been heaven-sent. I've been using Odesk as a working platform for more than a year now. My work pays more than enough for me and my family's needs and it allowed me to work at home and afford the life of independence. I also have enough money for the things that I want and at the same time I am capable of saving enough for the future.

Working in Odesk has helped me A LOT. I wanted to share the skills and experiences that I've acquired so my mom and I decided to build our own team of affiliated contractors wherein we'll be the head hunters. When I started in Odesk I was affiliated with another team who provides the projects that I needed to work on. I am still affiliated with them because they have been really helpful to me. I still remember that my first assignment paid $5/hour wherein I was tasked to copy paste a 100 page of data from a notepad to a website. That was more than a year ago and now, I am proud to say that I have a much higher hourly rate because I've gained many skills and good feedbacks from my previous bosses.

If you'd like to join Odesk there are two ways: (a) you can join as an independent contractor or (b) you can be affiliated with a team/company. The latter was how I did it and the affiliated team was really helpful when it comes to sourcing good paying jobs for me. However, joining an affiliated team means there is a commission (this also applies to my team). J Independent contractors work free from commissions and teams, however, most of them find it hard to land their first jobs and are forced to work for rates that they don't deserve. Most of them are forced to work for $3/hour or less. I even know someone who worked for 67 cents an hour!

sidetracked

Hey guys! It's been a while and now I'm back! LOL..
Many things happened to me these past months and I am sad to say that I was sidetracked from my pursuit of chasing my wings. And now, all of the efforts and preparations that I did last year were wasted and I feel like I'm back to zero. *sigh* :( Anyways, unfortunate events and I know that my lack of drive to really make things happen are the root cause.

I admire my friends and FA aspirant bloggers who consistently chase after the dream job that we all share. I was very happy when I read about FWB's success!! Congratulations!!! I knew cuz I've been blurking around and reading everyone's posts even though I wasn't updating my own blog! I guess I was too ashamed of myself for losing motivation so I didnt have the guts to update my blog (or even post messages in chatboxes! ) and announce to the whole world that I got lost. I felt depressed whenever I think about my lost dream of flying. :( I guess I was just not ready but I realized that I shouldn't wait until it's too late. So here I am reconciling with my blog and my dream of having those wings. :D

Zero Results

It has been exactly 2 weeks since my Meso body peel session and I still don't see any signs of peeling on my legs.
I'll be going back to the clinic today for a follow up check up. I hope that they would do something about it. :(

Update:
Just got home from Trinoma. Turns out there are some signs of skin starting to peel on my knees, but they're really small enough to notice though.
Dra said this is the first time that this happened, usually the peeling starts within 2 weeks. I'll be undergoing Tret peel session for my legs on Monday - and it's free!!! yey!!! heehee. This will hasten the peeling.

fighting genetics: failed preparations

I've been meaning to write a follow up blogpost for my "fighting genetics" entry but I am too depressed with the results.. or should I say that that there were no results at all.

I didn't see any skin peeling off, didnt see any visible changes with the scars and my knees - no improvements at all. huhuhuh :'( I can't think of a reason why since I followed every instruction that they gave me.

I went to Dra Geraldez last Monday and told her about it. She said that the skin that would come off will be very tiny that it's almost not visible. *Sigh* I didn't want to come off as a pessimistic patient so I asked her if there is a stronger peeling treatment that she can do since time is really important for me (I only have a year to fix myself and go to ODs). She recommended the Meso Body Peel which uses a stronger chemical agent than Tretinoin and will give visible results. It'll be applied all over my legs and the peeling will happen after 7 days. However; it costs a fortune!! The rate is around Php 850/ml. (Yes! They'll count how many ml/cc that they'll be putting on my legs! Sheesh! ) Anyway, I had them schedule me for Thursday. I went home to think about it.

I thought about it and thought about how my savings are slowly depleting. I couldn't work that night. I was literally staring at the ceiling and thinking about the Meso Body Peel. Will it also be a total fail like the tret peel? Will I be wasting money on it? I have planned of these kind of treatments before and have thought of the fortune that I will be spending in order to get that dream job but I don't want to spend money on something that won't work. I also thought about how I am running out of time and I really want to go to Assessments this December.

I decided to go on with the treatment.

Thursday
I went to Belo. Brought my beach pants since Dra said that I should wear something that won't touch my skin after the procedure.

The procedure involves a syringe that'll administer the medicine into the mesoderm. This means, the doctor will inject it into my skin a thousand times!! whew! but they were just tiny pricks.
They used 9 ml of the chemical agent for each of my legs (knees and below).
After that, my legs were covered with the green liquid and everyone was teasing me and calling me Princess Fiona. heehee..

I am really hoping that this will work. If it doesn't or if I don't see any improvements, I'll try Faces and Curves since I've been hearing a lot of good things about their Peeling procedures. I think it's much cheaper too. I've been happy with Belo especially with their Facial treatments and facial peels but I'm still not sure with the other treatments.

It's been 4 days since the Meso Body Peel treatment and I couldn't wait til I see dead skin peeling off!

Independence

This is my new address.
I just moved in yesterday to my new home here in an apartment near Trinoma. It's just a few minutes away from my home.

It's a studio type unit with 2 cabinets, 2 beds, a refrigerator, a/c & electric stove. All for a very affordable monthly fee. Not bad since I wanted a place which is fully furnished so I dont have to buy everything and spend too much on furniture and appliances.

During the last couple of weeks I've been shopping for new stuff for my unit, learning how to cook, packing and unpacking boxes and been convincing myself that everything's going to be fine. I've been thinking that this is a good thing for me, I'll learn how to be more independent, more disciplined and hopefully more fit to be an FA! hahaha! :)

Yes, I'm all alone. Hmm.. hopefully I can get through this thing that they call "independence" (sounds more like "loneliness" to me). Come to think of it, maybe I'll sleep over at my tita's house on oct 31 until the Halloween fright passes. LOL! I dont think Ill be able to survive here alone and have noone to run to when I get paranoid!

Anyway, I need to be wiser about spending money and time management. I've been supporting myself for more than a year but now that I moved out, I think things are going to be much more difficult. I dont know how to cook real food! But I can make perfect fried eggs and I just learned how to use a rice cooker! LOL! My mom always cooks for us so I never really learned how to cook special stuff except for fried ulam and we dont use rice cooker at home. heehee.. I also need to do my own household chores which means less time for work.

I just finished cleaning up the wooden chips that the maintenance guy chipped off from my door. I had him install new locks and chains. Not much to do here but sit in front of my laptop, surf and work so I figured I'd add a new post to this blog.

Im really hoping this is a start of something really good for me. My friends say that I'll get something really good in return for all the problems that I'm experiencing - I hope when they said "something really good" they meant me becoming an FA. hahahaha!

fighting genetics and everything else

Unlike other aspiring FAs that I see in the PEX FA thread, I am not born to be an FA. :(

i am not born to have smooth skin and pimple free face! lol!
i also have dark knees and a lot of scars all over my legs (i'm talking about keloid scars here) that I got from a very happy childhood. haha.. (I used to rock those big mountain bikes and run around the streets with my barkada playing patintero and black one to three..)
i have blackheads and the occasional pimples.
i used to have crooked teeth.
i am also not blessed with a sexy figure.
i didnt discover the powerful effect of applying moisturizing lotion until I was in college! (funny but true)
i am very thankful that I stand 5'3" or 5'4" though.
i am thankful that i can easily shed off a few pounds when I need to.
i am very thankful that i was blessed enough to be able to go to a good school so i'm 'okay' when it comes to english communication skills.
i am thankful that i'm a hardworker.
i am also thankful that God blessed me with just the right amount of luck in my life and i'm hoping he will again bless me with another jar of luck that i'll need so that i can also share it with others! :)

Ok, that's just the intro. heehee! :P

i am writing this blogpost so that i can (somehow)help other aspiring FAs who also have problems with scars, dark knees, body weight, etc. Actually, I don't think I can squeeze all the info into one post so i think i'll be writing a 'series' of posts about them.

a scar here, a scar there, oh! scars everywhere! hahahaha!

after working out, i went to Belo Trinoma to get my scars fixed.
i was supposed to go there tomorrow but since i cant wait, i asked if i can have my Tret peel today. all the people there are so nice! they set it up at 7:30pm which made me the last patient of the day.

anyway, i have talked to dra geraldez (from belo) about this. she saw my scars and told me that i had to undergo a procedure called Tretinoin peel which is a kind of chemical peel so that the dark scars would lighten up and match my skin tone. the peeling would take 3 to 5 days and i would need to undergo multiple sessions depending on the degree of darkness of each scar.
i also have to undergo a laser treatment for those light keloid scars. this laser treatment will make my keloid scars dark enough to match my skin tone as well. dra said that after the laser treatment, a few chemical peeling sessions might also be needed.

the rates of the procedure depends on the extent of darkness and the number of scars that needs to be peeled. Tret peel cost me P4000 for all the scars that i have on my legs -so i'm really hoping to get the results that i'm expecting.

she also applied some of the peeling solution to some parts of my toes which were darkened by always wearing flip-flops and not wearing sunscreen. ( i didnt realize that i also have to apply sunscreen on my feet everytime i go out on flip flops! :D)

anyway, i had to remove my pants so that Dra can see all of the scars.
then, Becky - one of the nurses/assistants had to wash my legs with soap to wash off the lotion that i applied coz she forgot to tell me that i'm not supposed to apply lotion before the procedure. heehee.
she also applied a 'drying solution' so that my skin would be able to absorb the chemical peel when Dra applies it.
after that, Dra applied the tretinoin peel. it wasnt painful or anything. the solution looked like the lotion that is used for mosquito bites and allergies ( forgot the name). it was color brown.
Becky used a hairdryer to dry it so that it can be absorbed by my skin much faster than air drying it. plus, it wont go to my pants when i put them back on.

i'm supposed to let the solution stay there for 7 hours and then wash it with soap. I dont think it will be peeling soon though, i think the solution isnt strong enough to make my scars peel - not until 3 days. (ang kapal ng balat ko! lol!)

i was told to stop applying lotion on my legs and stop using body scrubs. huhuhu! I need lotion! I desperately need it! :(

Dra gave me another option so that i can see visible improvements much faster than just waiting for tret peel to do its job alone. she told me i can undergo Dry dermabrasion, which i think is also Power peel except power peel is for the face. heehee.

she said dry dermabrasion can remove dead skin cells from my legs particularly on my scars. this will help hasten the improvements. Anyway, if i remember correctly it also costs 4000+. i'm still thinking about it. too expensive!

oh, and i bought two meds that i will need to apply to the scars. belo white - for AM. tyrosinase inhibitor - for PM. i should apply it religiously everyday! (goodluck to me) heehee.

just washed my legs and applied tyrosinase! hehe. i hope that this treatment will show some improvements soon. i'm counting on Belo since they are known to solve these types of problems! hehehe.. :)

As one of the steps in getting myself ready for Open Days, interviews and to know more about the profession from real FAs themselves, I am reading the very popular FA thread in Pinoy exchange. Whew! I think this has more than 150 pages and I think I've read around 50 pages of it already! I didnt start at the beginning of the thread. I started reading at about page 100 and I was so consumed by the excitement in reading all the interesting stuff there! I am really learning AL LOT from all the FAs, ex FAs, FA wannabes, and those who went to ODs and assessments and nailed it!!! *sigh* makes me want to go to ODs already! But I know It's not the right time yet. (I still have a lot of fixing to do!!!)

Anyway, whenever I have a question about my life or career (especially about my dream job) I always checkout the FB application 'Today God wants you to know'... And so, this is the message today:

"You've got to live life, not think about it. Step into the midst of things, try and fail and learn and stand up again. The question is not whether you will or will not make mistakes - you will. The question is do you want to learn and grow, or do you want to shrink back and be stuck? Take that step you've been avoiding. You can succeed, or you can get feedback that it didn't work, but in either case you are sure to feel alive."

I know it's talking about my plans to pursue my dream job and God always speaks in perfect timing. This is exactly what I am planning to do once I'm done 'fixing' and once I'm ready to go. I'll go to every OD and just do my best!!!! Of course I don't expect to nail the first OD but I will try to give my best and expect the worst! Well, when I want something, this is how I do it! Try and try and try my best! and when I fail?! I'll learn, improve and try harder next time!!!.

I believe, with God's help I just need to gather all my energy and focus it to the only thing that I want, I will get it! I will try my best and never stop or get tired.... UNTIL I'M OVER AGED! :D

This is not my first time to put up a blog. I made a couple of 'personal' blogs years ago and didn't follow through after publishing my first post (LOL!). I was too lazy and didn't have anything to write about - yeah, you heard it, my life is plain boring, or so I thought...

Although I have done this a hundred times (I put up blogs as part of my job), putting up a personal blog and publishing my thoughts for thousands of people from different parts of the world to read is a big step for me. So, I will try to make my identity as private as possible. heehee..

Now, about my little blog..

If you're reading my blog for the first time, you're probably wondering about the name of this blog - Chasing My Wings. Well, this is because a group of beautiful people inspired me to also put up a blog and also write about my own dilemmas that I'll be bumping into as I venture into the world of becoming a flight attendant.

I want this blog to serve as a reminder to myself that I only have 9 days and 2 years (as of now) to be able to claim my dream job (and I've gotta move my ass fast! I'm getting old!!!). Would also like to help other aspiring FA wannabes that will be reading my blog and maybe someday be able to inpire them (when I get hired by one of the most prestigious airlines! haha! no harm in assuming, right?).

So, do I think I can do this within 2 years?! I know, with God's help I can. :)
